Final Event ATHENS Project
To this end, we would like to invite you to the 'Final Event' of the ATHENS (Assembly technologies for hybrid structures of natural fiber composites) Interreg project on 19.12.2022 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The ATHENS project investigates and optimizes various assembly techniques to increase the use of natural fiber filled thermoplastic composites. The use of these reinforced plastics enables constructors in the transport sector to build light, yet rigid and strong structures. This fits in with the evolution towards minimizing vehicle weight and maximizing payload (freight, passenger transport, …). This project is part of an overarching effort to reduce the ecological footprint of transport.
Within the project, the focus was on both bonding and laser welding as assembly technology. On the one hand, both the adhesive composition and the design needs of the short bio fiber composites and test strategies for the adhesive bond were investigated. In addition, the focus was also on optimizing and tuning laser welding by setting up numerical simulations.
